Evaluations

A psychoeducational evaluation is a comprehensive assessment that provides both general and specific information about current levels of cognitive performance. Areas of assessments may include :

  • Ability to learn new skills and solve problems
  • Attention and concentration
  • Logical and abstract reasoning functions
  • Short-term and long-term memory

Academic Services

Individualized services are available for students with academic concerns, learning disabilities, or attention deficit disorders.

Psychotherapy

Helping children and adolescents to resolve emotional or behavioral challenges related to academic learning processes and improving their ability to cope with these difficulties in their lives.

  • Short-term therapy to develop coping skills to help with a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and social skills.
  • Focus on resolving issues and learning new strategies that can be applied to future challenges.
  • The goal is to be well adjusted and successful in the home and school environments.

An evaluation is completed in three stages:

1. Interview and Information Gathering

  • An initial phone consultation is held to discuss the reasons for referral
  • Parent questionnaires and history forms are completed
  • Interviews with parents and client are conducted to gather information regarding the challenges of your child or adolescent and to determine areas of assessment

2. Psychoeducational testing

  • Based on reason for referral and information from consultation Cognitive assessments, emotional, behavioral, academic achievement, and executive functioning tests may be administered
  • Testing may take between 2 to 8 hours, completed during different testing sessions
  • Observations in classroom may be conducted, contact with teacher and prior treatment providers completed

3. Review and Recommendations

An appointment is held to review the diagnostic results with family, child or adolescent

  • Review of comprehensive psychological report
  • Recommendations will be provided and thoroughly discussed
  • Any questions and concerns will we addressed
  • Action plan is developed and a follow-up planned
